Since beginning my own recovery journey in 1985, I’ve immersed myself in mind-body practices, Eastern philosophy, meditation, alternative healing, and martial arts. These tools didn’t just help me stay sober — they taught me how to truly thrive in recovery.
For nearly three decades I have led hands-on recovery programs as a volunteer counselor, process group leader, teen counselor, case manager, sober companion and meditation/Tai Chi instructor at premier treatment centers and sober-living facilities. I’ve had the privilege of guiding people from every walk of life through the challenges and triumphs of early sobriety. I am a Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor (2003), Advanced Bowen Therapist, and NST Practitioner. In 2004 I founded the Internal Arts Center in Santa Monica, integrating Bowen Therapy, Qigong, Tai Chi, and Chinese & Indonesian martial arts. Today I continue this work through LA Bowen Therapy.
In 2023 a clear turning point shifted everything. While working with client after client, I noticed an unmistakable pattern: nearly every addict I coached suffered from untreated gut-related issues that traditional recovery completely ignored. I dove into the research — and what I discovered was shocking. Addiction is not primarily a brain disease or a behavioral disorder. It begins in the gut biome and exhibits almost the precise disease characteristics of a parasitic infection.
I wanted to address the need in the marketplace for gut-first sobriety with a non-pharmaceutical intervention approach. T.R.Y. (Take Responsibility Yourself) Sobriety is the result of my lived experience seeing the differences these practices combined with an all natural approach can make. That journey taught me that true recovery is far more than abstinence; it is a profound transformation of body, mind, and spirit.
Through T.R.Y. Sobriety, I guide my clients into a core-centered, grounded recovery that restores physical vitality, emotional stability, and spiritual connection—so clients finally thrive, not just survive.
My emerging theory — detailed in my Amazon-released eBook Another Day in Parasite and my forthcoming book The Two Body Problem — is already transforming lives. Clients who address the gut first are finally able to stabilize their core, restore grounding, and build a resilient, authentic sobriety that lasts.
